Detroit Soul-Blues-R&B band Laura Rain & the Caesars will celebrate the release of their second full length record "Closer" with a special performance at the iconic Cliff Bell's in downtown Detroit on Sunday May 25th at 8pm.
Since the band's inception in 2012, Laura Rain has been setting the stage and airwaves on fire with her unique brand of Detroit soul music. Her debut release "Electrified" has received international critical acclaim from both the press and DJ's alike. Performing over 150 gigs in 2013 alone, Laura Rain & the Caesars have been featured performers on FOX 2 Detroit, WHFR, and WDET. Blues Junction's David Mac calls Laura Rain "a revelation..." while esteemed blues writer Tom Hyslop calls her "a force of nature..."
"Closer" continues the bands foray into heavy funk-soul-blues and vintage R&B, channeling Aretha Franklin, Al Green, James Brown, Funkadelic and Magic Sam into it's unique retro modern soul music. Producer and guitarist George Friend and Laura Rain composed over 20 songs previous to the sessions, and recorded their favorites. Featuring a stellar cast of some of Detroit's finest players, the two conceived an album of all original material that spotlight's the groups mix of nasty blues guitar, Hammond organ, funky rhythms and soul-fire vocals.
Laura Rain and George Friend were nominated for three 2014 Detroit Music Awards: Outstanding Blues/R&B songwriters, Outstanding R&B group, as well as Outstanding Blues/R&B recording.
